Arvind Lifestyle Brands has been directed by a US court to pay 3.2 million dollars (Rs 20 million) to Ralph Lauren to settle a lawsuit with the US-based luxury fashion house filed in 2013. The Club Monaco and Polo Ralph Lauren maker had filed a case in a US District Court against Arvind Lifestyle and US Polo Association (USPA), alleging a breach of agreement regarding disclaimers to be printed on USPA products sold in India.

In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange Arvind has said that the two companies have entered good faith discussions and agreed for an amicable settlement without admission of liability of any party. Arvind Lifestyle Brands is a licensee of many international brands in India, and has of late tied up with US retailer Gap to sell its clothes in the country.

Arvind Lifestyle has the license to make and market US Polo branded products in India. Ralph Lauren had first issued a notice for arbitration to be held in India against Arvind Lifestyle Brands and USPA. Arvind was successful in obtaining a temporary injunction against the commencement of arbitration from the jurisdictional court in India. However, Ralph Lauren went ahead and filed a lawsuit in the US Court.
