An Asian Summer Trunk Show 2016 was held in London recently which showcased a selection of upcoming fashion and jewellery designers from India and Pakistan. Most designers were making a debut in London. The event was organised by fashion designers Jasmine Kotecha of Nikaza Asian Couture and Deepa Sasan Bagai of Prints and Motifs.

The differentiating factor between this event and other similar ones is the pricing. The designs are offered at an affordable price range. Kotecha calls it ‘affordable couture’. For the organisers it can be challenging to manage all the designers and ensure that each one gets an opportunity to showcase their designs and that each collection is different from the other. The designers who exhibited at the event included Amna Usman for Shibori, Asma Gulzar presents Aida Couture, Fiza Osman, Hema Thakorlal, Jyoti Chandhok, Parul Goel, Priyanka Jha, Roshni Chopra, Waseem Noor among others.

The Show revealed a fusion of trends for the summer season. Some of them included pinks, ivory and corals for wedding, lace and mirror work, drapes, ready to wear saris and dhotis.

The success of the Trunk Show 2016 has given the designer duo the confidence to hold another event soon in London. They might do it around Diwali again. Kotecha believes that people prefer pop up events more because they get the opportunity to meet the designers and get orders custom made.
