Fashion designer Manish Arora has been conferred the highest civilian honour of France, Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honour). He has been given this award for his contribution to fashion as well as to his longstanding relationship with France.

Arora will be felicitated by the Ambassador of France to India, Francois Richier, who will confer the honour on behalf of the President of the French Republic at a ceremony at his place in New Delhi.

Arora is known for his whacky and extremely contemporary designs. He is regarded by many as the John Galliano of India. In 2011, he was appointed creative director of the womenswear collection of the French fashion house Paco Rabanne, which he left in 2012. His clothes are usually in rich palette of psychedelic colours and kitsch motifs which are combined with traditional embroidery, applique and beading. His creations have a strong western silhouette.

The Legion of Honor was created 1802 by Napolean Bonaparte and is given by the French Republic for outstanding service irrespective of the nationality of the recipients.
