Gashion designer Verma D’Mello has been invited to the prestigious World Fashion Week in San Francisco. She will showcase her collection titled ‘A paean to timeless India’. For this show she has sourced fabrics from 29 states and seven Union Territories across India. Her collection ‘Unity and Diversity’ has vibrant styles that are rooted in India. Each of her designs tell the story of rich culture and tradition that is interwoven with western designs.

For the show, D’Mello travelled across the country to source the fabric as well as document the stories of the weavers. Her Goan influence is visible in the collection. The clothes are made from silk, cotton, jute and knits. Interestingly, her collection stands for causes such as awareness on the rights of the girl child and providing better resources for visually challenged children. The designer has dedicated the creations to the traditional weavers of India.

Explaining her collection, D’Mello said that a lot of brainstorming had gone into the making of the collection. At the event, models wearing her collection will sashay down the ramp to Goan band Rhythm & Blues’ background score.
