Cats have pretty much dominated the internet since its inception and served as the muse or inspirational starting point for numerous items, collections and accessories. However today, August the 8th, marks a special day in the calendar and in the lives of cats around the globe - International Cat Day. Designers and fashion brands alike have taken to social media channels to share their love, admiration for the fluffy, four legged companions who we can't live with or without. In honour of International Cat Day, FashionUnited has gathered the best cat inspired collections and cat posts of the day.

Stella McCartney Autumn 2016

British designer Stella McCartney is known for her love of animals, as she refuses to use real leather or fur in her collections. However, her Autumn 2016 collection took her love of cats to the next level. Key items included trousers, shirts and sweaters bearing hand-drawn, cat face prints, fur-free bags decked out in tiger prints and leather-free loafers kitted out in leopard print, making it an all around purr-fect collection.

The collection even includes a eco alter-nappa pet carrier bag, bearing Stella McCartney's iconic Falabella chain link, so cats can travel in as much style as their human counterpart. For the collection campaign, the designer works with a number of Instagram cats, including George Clooney and Stella McCATney.

Dolce & Gabbana Winter 2016/2017

Italian design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana looked to their childhood for inspiration for their women's ready to wear, Winter 2016/2017 collection. The resulting collection, which plays on fairy tale motifs, features cats a plenty transformed into beautiful decorations. Cats are depicting cuddling on handbags, sitting on coats and posing playfully on sweaters, making it a collection all cat lovers should get their paws on.

Asos

The fun, online fashion retailer Asos, has fully embraced the power of the cat. The British e-tailer regularly features cat inspired apparel and accessories, whether it be a cat-face bag from its own brand, cat earrings from Monki or a kitty-print dress from Joseph. Asos even offers adult colouring books with, you guessed it, cats you can colour in. In honour of International Cat Day, Asos shared a photo of its latest kitty-inspired footwear.

Karl Lagerfeld and Choupette

Of course no cat fashion list would be complete without the most famous fashion cat of them all - namely Karl Lagerfeld’s furrier half, Choupette. She has served as the muse for a number of the German designer’s capsule collections as well as collaborative collections with cosmetics company Shu Uemura. She boasts her own Instagram and Twitter following and has a life most people would be envious of and in return acts as a endless source of inspiration for Karl.
