Asia’s biggest resort-wear fashion event, India Beach Fashion Week, kicked off on Friday in Goa. The three-day event had shows by top designers, even as it was opened by fashion designer Neeta Lulla’s experimental show. It was inspired by Chinese flowers like the Cherry Blossom and Osmanthus, which represent feminity, sensuality, love and romance.

The event had a mix of fashion shows and knowledge forums like Future Fashion Conclave and networking sessions like Sangria by the Sea. These two unique concepts aimed to bring together the best minds in the fashion industry under one roof for knowledge sharing and networking.

A Made in Goa showcase was designed to create a global platform for Goa-based designers, artists, textiles and handicrafts so that a global audience could get a look. The finale was by designer Varun Bahl who showcased his resort wear creations. The other designers included Mayyur Girotra, Anupama Dayal and Asmita Marwa.

In recent years, with destination wedding and theme parties becoming a part of our social culture, beach or resort wear has seen a fillip in recent years. As co-founder Amyn Manji points out, India Beach Fashion Week offers designers a platform to showcase talent and lead the conversation around resort fashion in the country.
