JD Institute of Fashion Technology has launched House of JD, an e-commerce marketplace designed to give students, alumni and emerging designers a route from completed design projects to the commercial market.

Launched in Mumbai on September 14, the platform covers fashion, interiors, textiles, art, objects and lifestyle. It is intended to allow creative talent to showcase and sell work while gaining experience in presenting, positioning and commercialising products.

The marketplace will be organised into five categories — hoJD Student, hoJD Next, hoJD Signature, hoJD Collective and hoJD Legendary — bringing together different stages of the institute’s wider design ecosystem. Unlike an open marketplace, House of JD says participating designers and products will undergo a curation process before being featured.

For fashion students and educators, the initiative highlights an increasingly important part of design education: understanding what happens after a collection or project is completed. By providing a potential route to consumers, House of JD aims to give emerging designers practical exposure to the commercial side of creative work.
