French beauty giant L'Oréal Group has signed a worldwide license agreement with Italian fashion house Valentino to create, develop and distribute fragrances and luxury beauty products under the Valentino brand name.

”We are thrilled to have been granted the license of Maison Valentino. With its unique combination of prestige and modernity, Valentino definitely will appeal to the millennial consumers around the globe and ideally complements our brand portfolio”, said Nicolas Hieronimus, Deputy CEO of L'Oréal in a statement.

Stefano Sassi, CEO of Valentino, expressed his desire to see the Valentino brand grow in the beauty sector. “We believe Valentino has great potential within the category and that with L'Oréal’s unparalleled expertise in the sector, we will be able to realize that potential”.

L'Oréal is taking Valentino’s license deal from Spanish company Puig, which has developed Valentino’s perfumes and cosmetics since 2009. Valentino’s current contract with Puig is set to expire at the end of the year and will not be renewed. The L'Oréal Group currently holds 34 beauty and cosmetics brands around the world, including Lancôme, Kiehl’s, Biotherm, Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent and Urban Decay.
