NIFT students earn recognition at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026

Students representing India’s National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) have received recognition in the fashion-related categories at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, as part of India’s largest-ever delegation to the international skills competition.

Vidhi Niravkumar Suthar received a Medal for Excellence in Fashion Technology, one of 20 such awards won by Indian competitors across technical, creative and service disciplines. India also secured six Silver Medals, although none were awarded in Fashion Technology.

The Shanghai competition brought together more than 1,400 competitors from around 70 countries and regions from September 22–27. India sent 70 competitors across 63 skills, including Fashion Technology, Visual Merchandising and other creative disciplines.

The result highlights the role of international skills competitions in benchmarking fashion students against professional standards. WorldSkills describes its competitions as a platform for developing technical proficiency, innovation, precision and craftsmanship, while also exposing participants to international practices and evolving industry requirements.

For fashion educators, the Fashion Technology result also points to the growing importance of practical, industry-oriented skills alongside conventional academic and creative training.
