Designer Masaba Gupta, best known for her quirky, fun prints in Indian apparels, is all set to launch her kidswear collection. This new online venture is targeted at children in the age group 2-12 years. And like her designs for adults, the kids collection will be quirky and fun.

Gupta is clear that her collection for kids will steer clear of cartoon characters. Instead there will be lots of other things such as candies, balloons, ice-creams, rainbows on their clothes. The collection has more than 25 styles in cotton fabrics and cotton blends. The colours are vibrant and the first batch is an extension of the adult line. In fact, it’s very summer friendly line and gives top priority to the comfort of children. Another aspect is the utility of the dress that had to be kept in mind.

Gupta got the idea for a kidswear line when a Kolkata-based company Magic Fairy approached her to do a kidswear line with them. So she tied up with them and outsourced all the work to make it cost effective. After all, Gupta realised that parents were not too keen to spend a lot on clothes for the children, at least not more than Rs 3,000-4,000. Gupta is looking at fitting into the space where cute, comfortable kidswear is missing in the homegrown market. Also, she is not worried about competition from global players because she believes that if people want designer stuff at affordable price, they would come to her. After all, there is no other Indian designer doing kidswear as such a huge chunk.
