Varun Bahl will be the opening designer at AIFW 2016

Fashion designer Varun Bahl will be the opening designer at the Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2016 (AIFW) to be held from March 15 to 20. The fashion extravaganza will be held in association with Maybelline New York. Bahl is known for his luxurious hybrid styles where he mixes an antique template with contemporary touches. His new collection which will be showcased at the Fashion Week is dedicated to woman today and this can be seen in the collection’s elegance, balance and proportion. He has used contemporary embroideries and textures in a range of warm colours that have been inspired by flora and fauna. FDCI president Sunil Sethi feels points out that Bahl is known for his captivating silhouettes, understanding what modern women desire and creating evocative clothes. He will set the rhythm for the AIFW 16, he said.

Meanwhile, the AIFW will showcase menswear collection by three young designers. The AIFW, will showcase designs by Antar-Agni, Divyam Mehta and Rohit Kamra.

Antar-Agni by Ujjawal Dubey’s collection is titled ‘The Red in Us’ uses controlled oxidised red in its creations paired with fabrics with character. Mehta’s collection ‘Into the Woods’ is inspired by trees and textures. It brings out bliss, harmony through this inspiration which is blended with Shibori patterns. Kamra’s collection will redefine the royal look by modernising through bandhgalas and breeches. The ‘Made in Jaypore’ ensemble will see strong influences from Japore’s rich past.

Sethi, is confident of the young designers who he feels will add a lot of glamour and style quotient the event. Menswear is being showcased for the first time at AIFW.
