Sportswear brand Reebok has announced that they are teaming up with British fashion designer Victoria Beckham on an “innovative, long-term” collaboration that will “empower women around the world”.

The Reebok x Victoria Beckham collaboration, which is set to launch in late 2018, will sit it in the Reebok Innovation Collection, a brand initiative that focuses on developing footwear and apparel to “deliver the next generation of performance and expression, from conceptual runway designs to tech-driven products that fill retail shelves,” said the sportswear giant. Previous other designer brands to feature in this category has included Cottweiler and Vetements.

Beckham joins Reebok’s growing coalition of women collaborators, including Ariana Grande, Gigi Hadid, Aly Raisman and Teyana Taylor who have partnered with the sportswear brand as part of its mission to “empower women to be the best version of themselves”.

Commenting on the collaboration, Beckham said: "I am incredibly excited to embark on this partnership built on shared values. I have always championed instilling confidence in women and Reebok is a brand that has been at the forefront of this same message for decades.

“To have the opportunity to challenge the traditional notions of fitness wear within a fashion context is something I have always wanted to do. I have long incorporated sportswear into my wardrobe and daily life and I am thrilled to be coming together with Reebok on such a dynamic proposition.”

Reebok’s senior vice president of women's initiatives, Corinna Werkle, added: "As a brand, we look to partner with not just influential women, but women who want to truly change the world. There's no better embodiment of this than Victoria - she is a true visionary who possesses a relentless desire to help women become the best version of themselves.

“This desire shines through in everything she touches, especially her designs, which continue to push industry standards season after season. We cannot wait for the world to see what she will do with our collaboration.”

Beckham shared the news on her Instagram with a video of her arriving at the brand’s headquarters wearing all black except for her white Reebok’s ready to start "day one" of the design process, and invited her 17.6 million followers to head to her website and subscribe for updates.

No details have been given about what the collection will offer, however, previous collaborations have included apparel and footwear, and Beckham is known for her use of classic white tennis trainers worn with her signature tailoring, so there will probably be an update on the classic white Reebok look.

The only details the sportswear brand revealed about that the collection is that it would: “Encourage women to embrace their imperfections, advocating individualism and break down barriers”.
