German sportswear major Adidas Group has roped in Damyant Singh as its Brand Director for India. Singh will report to Dave Thomas, the newly appointed, Adidas India Managing Director. He steps in to fill the gap created by Tushar Goculdas, who was recently announced the new the Brand Director for Adidas Emerging Markets.

After Adidas India Managing Director, Erick Haskell, who played a large role in reviving the company’s image in the country after Reebok's controversy, put in his papers to pursue a new career interest, Dave Thomas, a 16-year veteran of the Adidas Group replaced him.

After being embroiled in a controversy over alleged fraud at Reebok’s India operations, parent company Adidas has been trying hard to rebuild its image in the country amid tough competition from rivals like Nike and Puma. The company is banking on fitness savvy Indian consumers for growth. While Adidas is expanding its product range working as a pure sports brand with specific shoes for different sports such as basketball, cricket and tennis, Reebok, with its changed positioning from mass brand to premium, is being developed as a fitness brand in the country.
