Online marketplace Snapdeal has brought Animesh Sharma as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for its recently acquired online portal for premium and luxury fashion Sharma was working with Wize Commerce (formerly Nextag) for almost a decade where he served as Vice President-Engineering, before moving to this new role.

At Wize Commerce, he was responsible for managing all aspects of engineering, services and live site operations along with leading a team of over 100 engineers across multiple verticals. During his tenure, Sharma was instrumental in building and managing some of the most critical technology modules - Travel, Store and Mobile Application.

Snapdeal acquired to gain a strong foothold in the high margin fashion space. Competition among Flipkart-Myntra duo, Amazon and Snapdeal as well as Jabong is heating up and each one is busy growing its fashion portfolio. Founder Sunjay Guleria had earlier sold the ‘Sher Singh’ apparel brand to Myntra in 2012. At the time, when players are moving towards consolidation, with some getting sold and others shutting shop, India’s ecommerce market is expected to witness the emergence of handful of strong players.
