Snapdeal ropes in Anup Vikal as Chief Financial Officer

Jasper Infotech-owned, online marketplace Snapdeal has roped in Anup Vikal as its new Chief Financial Officer.

Prior to joining Aircel, Vikal was the group CFO and head of strategy and IT at InterGlobe Enterprises, handling multiple responsibilities, including, incubating and developing new business, mergers and acquisitions and portfolio management. He has also served as director and head of Finance Shared Services for Colt Technology for three years, as well as in Bharti Airtel, where he headed the finance division for close to seven years, according to the press release.

In June the company appointed Bharti Airtel senior executive Anand Chandrasekaran as its Chief Product Officer and also Govind Rajan, from Bharti Airtel, as its Chief Strategy Officer.

The battle to be ahead in the India’s ecommerce space thickens as lead players are strategizing their plans to make the most out of forthcoming festive season, when consumer spend increases significantly. The fierce competition among Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon India is backed by the recent funding boosts they have received, which would let them innovate and announce customer-friendly schemes to increase sales. The aim is also to retail consumers with an eye on becoming the first ecommerce venture to turn profitable.

This year, while Snapdeal raised 500 million dollars (over Rs 3,000 crores) from Foxconn, SoftBank and Alibaba, Flipkart has said to have bagged a 700 million dollars (over Rs 4,600 crores) funding boost and Amazon, during its investor call announced that it aims to invest 7 billion dollars (over Rs 46,000 crores) in the country.
