Vikas Purohit, the man behind the success of Amazon India’s fashion and lifestyle category has put in his papers. Since the launch of the fashion category in September 2013, the fashion store on Amazon.in had emerged as one of the top three stores on the platform in terms of volume as well as value. Susan Saideman, Vice President for global vendor management, will lead the fashion category for the time being.
Prior to joining Amazon, Purohit had worked with several Indian and foreign brands in present India. He was retail head for Tommy Hilfiger, business head for Diesel at Reliance Brands, and had served at Madura Garments and Planet Retail, among others.
The development takes place when the company is pursuing its India plans aggressively. Its American parent recently announced that Amazon.in will be its biggest market outside the US. The company is also said to be in the process of adding features like Amazon Instant Video and subscription-based ecommerce services for high-end buyers, which would be called Amazon Prime, later this year.
