Aeropostale partners with Arvind to enter India

Aeropostale, a mall-based specialty retailer of casual apparels for young women and men, has announced expansion plans throughout Asia with new licensing agreements in India and Indonesia. The company would open stores in India through a licensing agreement with Arvind Lifestyle Brands and in Indonesia through a licensing agreement with PT Mitra Adiperkasa TBK (MAP).
Commenting on the expansion strategy, Julian R Geiger, Chief Executive Officer, said, “India and Indonesia are two of the most populated countries in the world and see significant opportunities by bringing the Aeropostale brand to these key countries. Following the successful launch of our brand in the Philippines and Singapore, we are excited to capitalize on the strong growth prospects in both India and Indonesia.”
Aeropostale's expansion plans in India include the opening of 50 standalone stores, 150 shop-in-shops in select locations, and e-commerce operations across the country over the next five years, beginning in March 2016.
Arvind Lifestyle Brands, subsidiary of Arvind, which already has an impressive brand line-up comprising Tommy Hilfiger, US Polo Assn, Elle, Geoffrey Beene, Arrow, Calvin Klein aims to achieve a revenue target of Rs 175 crores from combined innerwear portfolio of Calvin Klein, US Polo and Hanes, this year. Even, American lifestyle brand Gap and The Children’s Place have also formally announced their partnership with Arvind to open stores in India.
