Aeropostale posts record sales in India

American apparel brand Aeropostale sold apparels worth Rs eight lakh daily on an average in its first month of operations in India. This surpasses every other retailer in the country in terms of per day sales per square foot. The New York headquartered brand, popularly called Aero, opened its maiden store in South Delhi’s Select City Walk mall on November 6.
Aeropostale plans to open 30 more stores in India and 25 shop-in-shops over the next three years as well as an e-commerce portal. Aero, Abercrombie & Fitch and American Eagle are known in the US for jeans, hoodies and T-shirts mostly for teenagers. Aeropostale has been looking at expanding its presence in emerging economies amid stagnating or slowing sales in the US market. For decades, the brand has influenced American teenagers’ style and fashion sense.
It expects to do well in India given a large consumer base of 500 million Indians under the age of 25 and their increasing propensity to spend on fashion. India's relaxed policy for foreign direct investment in single brand retail should prove a shot in the arm for Aeropostale.
Aeropostale has been launched in India by Arvind Lifestyle Brands. Arvind runs a portfolio of brands across India including Gap, Calvin Klein, US Polo, Arrow and Tommy Hilfiger.
