The year 2015 has been excellent for Amazon India as it has emerged the largest online store in 2015 as well as the most visited site, with 70 percent of its traffic coming from mobiles. A variety of innovations have helped Amazon India reach this position. Sunday and morning delivery, service partner programme, global selling programmes for sellers and rural distribution centres were some of the innovations which spurred amazon.in to grow significantly in India.

In addition, Amazon continued to invest in various programs in India such as Kirana Now, Project Udaan and Amazonbusiness.in. Kirana Now, launched in Bangalore on a pilot project, helps buyers when shopping for their everyday needs. In 2016, Amazon will be focusing on this project in a big way. With Project Udaan, the company extended its reach especially to the digitally underprivileged. The project integrates skill development and self-employment with assisted shopping and Amazon Pickup. The other project Amazonbusiness.in is a members’ only website which offers frequently purchased business supplies and products in bulk quantities at wholesale prices to small and medium businesses. It has been launched early this year as a pilot project in Bangalore and Mangalore.

For Amazon India, 2015 has been an exceptionally great year, as Amit Agarwal, vice president and country manager, Amazon.in, says. The company saw a 250 percent growth in seller base. As Agarwal points out ‘we received 65 percent orders from Tier II cities. We believe our focus on working backwards from customer needs and innovating on the three things that matter to customers –selection, low prices and convenience – is paying rich dividends’.

Amazon India also increased its fulfilment centres by three times in 2015 as compared to 2014.
