Amazon India undertakes offline retailing under ‘Udaan’

After making strong in-roads into the India’s online market, Amazon India has now launched a project named Udaan to tap the offline market in the country. Apart from tying up with small traders in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu to launch Amazon-branded stores that will let customers shop on the online Amazon store, the arm of American ecommerce giant has also signed a deal with the Rajasthan government that may introduce almost 36,000 such stores in the state.

The store owners under Udaan Vakrangee , a network of last-mile retail points of sale for Maharashtra and e-Mitra , an e-governance initiative of the Rajasthan government, specialising in providing last-mile solutions for government services, including ration cards.

Some of the stores that have already become operational under the initiative include outlets in Kalyan, Govandi, Bhandup in Mumbai, Mahana in Rajasthan and Erode in Tamil Nadu.
