Flipkart’s last ‘Big Billion Sale’ drew flak from consumers as well as industry players alike. Despite all the criticism, India’s leading home-grown online player is all set to announce another much bigger sale event around the end of the fiscal year in March. Last time, consumers were disappointed with its lack of preparedness to handle such event, whereas apparel retailers and brands were miffed with the low levels of discounts offered by the e-retailer.

Reports claim that this time the company is leaving no stone unturned to deliver goods faster while eliminating sub-standard goods by investing in technology required to handle such sale events and efficient logistics to manage them well. It is also in the process of hiring people to strengthen its technology team to fulfill its aim.

Earlier, fair trade regulator Competition Commission of India (CCI) had received complaints against online retailers including Flipkart for alleged unfair business practices. The complaint was made after Flipkart’s massive ‘Big Billion Day’ sale event that raised concerns over anti-competitive practices of the online shopping portals. Even traders’ body CAIT had asked the Commerce and Industry Ministry to take steps to monitor and regulate online businesses.
