T-shirts as a market segment has been growing at the rate of 12 per cent every year and the market is expected to touch Rs 21,250 crore by 2018. In 2014 it was Rs 12, 200 crore. It’s no longer the young who ask for T-shirts, even older people are now going in for T-shirts, thus giving a fillip to the segment. It is in this scenario that FreeCultur Express, a tech-enabled platform which provides creative people to come on onboard and create their own stores, has found a huge potential in the T-shirt market. In fact Yash Raj Films and Disney have tied up with FreeCultur Express to sell their characters on T-shirts.
Designers can come on board FreeCultur Express, upload their designs that go on a T-shirt, set their own MRP and publish it. Here the designers don’t need to spend money on starting their own store. When an order is received through FreeCultur, the designer is paid a royalty. Once the product is delivered, the designer gets a credit on a monthly basis. It is an opportunity for people to showcase their designs. It is a three party model – designer, production partner and consumer. As Sandeep Singh, co-founder and CEO, FreeCultur, says that it is a great platform for brands who want to enter merchandising, and also he clarifies that they are not an apparel store.
With a tie-up with Disney, FreeCultur plans to launch T-shirts of Star Wars, Marvel Avengers, Spiderman and Pixlr. They recently launched the kids range and are now looking at stabilising the range. Disney’s contents will be available in the kids range. Even Chhota Bheem is on their wishlist.
