Lords, the family-owned retailer after selling shoes through physical
stores for over last four decades, is now focusing on online sales of its
products through several marketplace models from April 2014. The company is
already witnessing 8 percent of its total sales coming from the medium.
While some value retailers are contemplating launching their own e-platforms with exclusive merchandise to taken on online discounting, Mumbai-based retailer Lord’s Shoes decided to sell its products through big marketplaces instead of launching their own web platform to save costs of managing a full-fledged website.
Lord’s currently has eight stores in Mumbai and seeing contribution from online sales grow at about 15 percent on average every month. While the company’s range is sold on several marketplaces, fashion-focused websites like Jabong, Snapdeal and Flipkart-owned Myntra account for 70 to 75 percent of its online sales.
