Reliance Trends increases focus on women’s category

Reliance Trends, the clothing chain from Reliance Retail will now focus on expanding its women’s wear range. The reason: growing demand and positive consumer response. The company operates around 210 stores across the country, which witness 41 percent of revenue from men’s wear, and about 35 percent from women’s wear category.

The company is betting big growth of working women, rising fashion consciousness as well as nuclear families to drive sales of women’s wear. To cater to demand, the company, which sells around five million garments a month, is planning to bring more designers on board, while increasing sourcing for both ethnic and western womenswear apart from opening design centres in the international markets, focused on women’s western wear.

Reliance Retail managed to increase its revenue by 21.2 percent to Rs 17,640 crores during the fiscal year ended March 31, 2015 on the back of a wide product offerings with value proposition. The company, which maintained the status of India's largest retailer, said it achieved profit before depreciation, interest and taxes (PBDIT) of Rs 784 crores for the year.
