Sustainable fashion is the buzzword for many online ventures in India that are selling worn-before clothes. Even internationally, a need to indulge in fashion that cuts down on wastage has been felt. Many websites are now selling worn before clothes, including designer biggies such as Tommy Hilfiger, Kenneth Cole and so on. Rekinza, one such website, was launched in March 2015. It deals with clothes, bags and shoes from leading designer names. They have more than 60 percent discount from the originals.

Vidisha Pasari, one of the founders of the website, says pan-India free pick-ups are offered to those who want to sell their clothes. Once bought, the clothes are checked for authenticity and quality. She says that a commission is deducted on the price quoted while the rest goes to the seller. They get requests from all types, some women wanting to sell what they wore on their engagement while many other wanting to wear designer stuff but unable to afford it. So, in the end it turns out a win-win situation for both.

Youngsters too are cool about re-selling and wearing used clothes. They believe that it makes sense to re-sell instead of crowding one’s wardrobe. Pasari believes that sustainability is a major part of the initiative started by her. What with so much ‘textile wastage and blind-buying, the need to re-sell and buy consciously has thus become that much more important’.
