Snapdeal to host store of handicrafts from Tamil Nadu

Ranging from unique brass products, stone wood carvings, sandalwood products, these varied crafts will be sold through Snapdeal.com. Through the exclusive store, Snapdeal will equip the artisans with online cataloguing and help them refine their product offerings with its data analytics tools. The Poompuhar-Snapdeal store will be launched in March 2015. Tamil Nadu is popular for its finest handicrafts such as celestial figures in bronze, brass lamps, rosewood carvings, sandalwood carvings and more.
Snapdeal has also set up four teams under its fashion segment in Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata. Fashion is considered a high margin category and Snapdeal sees around 35 percent of its sales and 55-60 percent of transactions driven by it. The company anticipates the category to generate almost 2 billion dollars (over Rs 17,000 crores) revenue by 2015-16, up from the estimated 600 million dollars (over Rs 3,699 crores) in 2014-15.
