Spencer’s Retail opens two hypermarkets in Hyderabad

Spencer’s Retail has opened two new hypermarkets in Hyderabad taking the number of stores in the city to five. Part of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, the company now operates 120 stores across 35 cities in India. Of the 12 stores planned this fiscal, five were launched in Hyderabad.

The two hypermarkets are located in L B Nagar spread over 30,000 sq. ft. and Ramanthapur over 35,000 sq. ft. areas in the city. The stores would start its operations on the eve of Independence Day on August 14. Spencer’s witnesses nearly four million footfalls every month. Hyderabad was the first city where Spencer’s opened its first hypermarket at Musheerabad in 2000. The company also recently launched two outlets in Karimnagar and Warangal districts of Telangana State.

Though the overall retail segment is continues to be bogged down with low consumer buying, Spencer’s Retail has decided to move ahead with its retail expansion plans. The company has decided to launch 100 hypermarkets across the country by 2017.
