Kolkata-based menswear brand Turtle has launched its range of clothing for winter 2015. The autumn/winter collection is focused on style and fabric. The styles in vogue this season include smart fit in two button single breast. The fabric base is TR, PV, cotton and linen and the colour palette is black, charcoal, blue and basic grey. Cut close to the body, it gives a sharp and slim look to the outfit. Another fit doing well is the cropped look. It is more lean with shorter body length. Of course, it looks best on well-built physiques. Turtle follows the smart fit. Among colours off-beat are no longer in vogue, the basics are back, and hence, Turtle is following the international trend.
Suits an ever growing category
Suits are a big category at Turtle, especially occasion wear ones. The company believes that suit wearing in India is still limited to occasions; only a niche segment wears it to office. However, in recent years, the market for occasion wear suits is growing owing to spread of awareness to dress well. Also, unlike in the past suits are priced at an affordable range, and hence reach out to more people in different strata of society. The market for casual suits, on the other hand, is small. In this category, blazers are doing well and have caught up with the niche segment which likes to dress well. As far as tuxedos are concerned, it is a very small segment particularly the well-heeled class of the society. Interestingly, waist-coats are a preferred part of clothing for the young and this segment is definitely growing. It has become an alternative to blazers and suits.
Fit is what matters
The suits industry is growing rapidly. What really works for all is the right fit. A bad fit makes the style and fabric irrelevant. Also, different body types make it difficult to get the right fit, thus making the job a challenge. Even a small fault in the fitting can be visible because it is cut so close to the body. In recent years, the demand has gone up. It is a round the year selling product and so investment in this segment is always fruitful. “Today’s consumer is very brand conscious. Brands and prices play an important role in the suit category,” says Shitanshu Jhunjhunwala, Director, Turtle. The company has a pan-India presence with outlets in different parts of the country. It also has a presence online and sells its products through a tie-up with Flipkart, Jabong and Myntra. Turtle exports to countries like Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia among others.
