AIFW Day 2: Black and other dark shades rule the ramp

Day two of the Amazon India Fashion Week 2015 commenced with designer duo Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna showcasing their black and white range of ensembles titled ‘An Early Frost’. The models wore- sheer, see through, black base, cut outs, net and more. The collection included straight cut pants with dresses that had plunging necklines, suits with over sized sleeves, puffed sleeved coats, ankle pants for men with broad shoulder sleeves, crop top with sharp detailing in sequins and a handful of dresses with prints to stand out.
Designer duo Hemant and Nandita, and Pallavi Mohan presented their designs, based on the times gone by. While Mohan’s collection, ‘Nostalgia’, covered the 1920s or ‘The Roaring Twenties’, Hemant and Nandita brought back the 70’s era with their collection ‘Boho Caravan’. ‘Rajputana Kumari’, Samant Chauhan’s line was filled with purity as the inspiration was derived from the 16 forms of 'kumari' - Sandhya , Saraswati , Kalika , Shubhga , Tridhamurti and so on. Also lined up for the day was Malini Ramani's Autumn/Winter line consisting of western ensembles in a combination of dark and pastel shades. The collection she brought on the ramp was gothic, deep and sensational. Models sashayed in long skirts with side deep thigh high slits, ankle length skirt with slits, and asymmetrical cuts. Ramani designer played with a lot of detailing, embellishments, motifs and zardozi. The outfits were booming and some of them also had a touch of dull gold.
Mixed emotions on the canvas
Designer duo Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna’s emotions about life’s uncertainty were perfectly expressed on stage. Models walked down the ramp wearing capes, pant suits, dresses with sheer panels, high waisted skirts, embossed neoprene dresses, lazer-cut jackets having prints and textures inspired from fur textures in black shades infused with some strokes of white.The designers interpretation of their state of mind was depicted through colours of a cold forest. Giving keen attention to detailing, the duo made use of metallics on blacks, animal skin and black on blacks with a lot of layering and exaggerated sleeves.
NOIR 43 inspired by crime thriller
Bollywood actor and director-duo Dibakar Banerjee and Sushant Singh Rajput, launched a collection called ‘NOIR 43’ inspired by their upcoming film ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy’. The collection would be exclusively retailed on Amazon and to endorse the same, Banerjee showcased a fashion film at the Amazon.in Lounge.Military uniforms, drape-knit pants, printed shirts and T-shirts featured in the men’s collection dominated by shades of blacks and dark earthy hues. The women’s line had the influence of 1940s glamour. The collection included midi-length skirts, palazzos and Peter Pan-collared blouses.
Abraham & Thakore brought the curtains down on day two with their collection, once again in black in various forms. The for Autumn/Winter 2015 consisted of prints related to the army and imprints of fabrics. Models also wore white kurtas with long trench coats and tight pants of the same colour combination. Cotton sari with sharp thick borders in classic colours like black and dark blue were also on display.
