Replacing its long-standing partner sponsor Wills Lifestyle, FDCI had brought American ecommerce giant Amazon’s India arm on board as the title sponsor of its India Fashion Week in February. Amazon, was also the title sponsor of FDCI’s couture week. The move clearly indicates its aim to be ahead of the online rivals in the fashion space like Myntra and Snapdeal-owned Exclsuively.com.

The Amazon Design Store was launched earlier this year in association with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). To begin with, the online store launched collections of about 20 designers. The company had then announced that the number would be increased to 100 over the next few months.

Witnessing demand, especially from smaller towns for designer saris, and kurtas , the company now plans to tie-up with more designers. At the time of the launch, the company had unveiled collections of designers Manish Arora, Hemant & Nandita, Shantanu & Nikhil along with premium lines from the Yash Raj owned Divan'i, Satya Paul, Mandira Bedi and others. The portals has already been witnessing double digit growth in sales reaching 500 percent month-on-month during the last festive season and anticipates the fashion category to further boost its sales figures.
