Arvind bags award for energy conservation

Denim major, Arvind has received National Energy Conservation Award 2014 from the Ministry of Power. Arvind ranked first among 70 textiles players scrutinised by the Ministry of Power on the National Energy Conservation Day on December 14. The company achieved nearly 22 percent reduction in specific consumption in thermal energy and 18 percent reduction in power usage from last financial year, a company statement informed.

The company achieved power savings through energy efficient air compressors, unity power factor, reduction in specific consumption in humidification plant, energy efficient boilers and power savings in lights using LEDs and magnetic amplifiers, the statement said. The release said that modifications were done in pumps and motors for optimum and high efficiency running along with utilisation of day light in the plant.

The National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated on December 14 every year and the Ministry of Power awards companies from different industry groups for creating benchmarks in energy conservation. These include industrial units, buildings, hotels, railway zones, state designated agencies, manufacturers of BEE star labelled appliances/equipment. Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) evaluates the data and shortlists companies. These shortlisted organisations are audited by Ministry of Power, Government of India. Based on their recommendations energy conservation award is decided.
