The Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC), the country's largest vocational training network for the industry, is hosting its first international training workshop for five days. The event was inaugurated by Hari Kapoor, VC ATDC and Darlie Koshy, DG & CEO-ATDC & IAM at ATDC-TOT (Training of Trainers) Academy, Gurgaon. Also present on the occasion were members of the recently formed ‘Ujjesh’ apparel cluster which has been catalyzed with the help of ATDC & NPC.

At the inaugurating Kapoor said, “I am sure both faculty resources and industry professionals can greatly benefit from this advanced training workshop on lean manufacturing practices for bringing in new inputs on enhancing ‘productivity & efficiency’ in the apparel sector.”

The five-day workshop, 'Lean manufacturing practices and implementations' is conducted in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel (SLITA), and organized by the ATDC-TOT (training of trainers) academy. The organisers feel the enviable record in efficiency and productivity of the Sri Lankan industry can immensely help and motivate India's apparel sector. The ATDC-TOT academy functions as a resource centre for setting benchmarks and quality parameters for teachers and trainers in the apparel sector, and works towards improving both the knowledge base and skill levels in the faculty resources.

Emphasizing the fact that Indian apparel industry needs to control costs, rein in wastes and improve productivity & efficiency, Koshy said, “Time has come to commit ourselves to improve competiveness, by adopting lean manufacturing practices. SLITA has proven itself as a practical leader in this sphere and we are happy to bring such a workshop to the ATDC faculty resources and professionals from the industry when the industry is seriously looking at options to be highly competitive.”

Besides being a globally renowned training institute, SLITA is also a 'technical services provider' for the textile and apparel industry, imparting cutting-edge instruction and latest specialized skills to help professionals gain advantage.
