The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) has partnered with top designers like Anamika Khanna, Rajesh Pratap Singh and Rohit Bal to promote khadi through an event in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The fashion industry body has associated with the Gujarat State Khadi and Village Industries Board (GSKVIB) to organise the fashion show titled ‘From Huts to the High-Street’, where the designers will showcase their high-end khadi collections.

The show will be held on January 17, 2015, at the Sardar Patel National Memorial in Ahmedabad in the presence of prominent industrialists, textile aficionados, senior level bureaucrats, members of the film industry and students. Not only this, the show will also see a special performance by Samandar Khan, renowned Manganiyar vocalist from Barmer, Rajasthan, who will customise the music to the theme of the show.

Sale of khadi, a hand-woven cloth, registered a 6 percent growth in 2013-14 across the country, while the gain in production during this period was by about 6.45 percent. The success of this eco-friendly fabric has been attributed to khadi’s introduction in the field of fashion and rise in demand for khadi ensembles among the youth.
