Called Chokhi Ghaba , designer Gautam Gupta’s new collection is a modern take on traditional Rajasthani costumes worn during festivities. However vibrant colours like orange and green, Rajwada-inspired embroidery, gotta embroidery, mirror work and bandhani work are a part of his designs created with a modern twist.
He has created Rajwada borders using lighter embroidery material and dori work. Bandhani technique is used for designing lehengas as well as suits and kurtas but the design is different from the usual diamond shape pattern. Rajasthan’s traditional tie and dye technique and gotta embroidery have been used extensively besides lehariya fabric.
To appeal to contemporary women, he has used French knots, an intricate embroidery, small geometrical patterns and cutting to make his ensembles look modern. So Banarasi sari is matched with a western-style blouse and a bandhani sari is replaced with a bandhani lehenga .
