Western silhouettes in shades and designs influenced by rich Indian tradition and crafts have become popular in the European markets. Perfect blend of traditional Indian fabrics, weaving techniques and embroideries in contemporary western apparel styles are appealing to the consumers in the western markets. No wonder, rising demand has led to governments of India and Scotland starting community colleges programme, providing an opportunity for employment, entrepreneurship in the lucrative garment industry.

The programme has been organising exchange programmes between leading universities and colleges in United Kingdom and India sharing their knowledge and expertise in fashion and apparel design. Currently, faculty members from Glasgow Kelvin College, Scotland, led by Senior Curriculum Manager Anne Wood are on a visit to the Government Polytechnic College for Women, Gujjangundla. They have reiterated the fact that contemporary Indian apparel designs are a huge hit in western markets and they are trying to innovate with the paisley print in bright colours.

The visiting team studied some dying and bleaching techniques at the fashion lab demonstrated by Head of Garment Technology & Coordinator of Community College, B. Nagamani. Now the faculty members from the Polytechnic College would visit the Glasgow Kelvin College, Scotland in September.
