Karyaah, the online western wear brand by Nidhi Agarwal, has got a funding boost from Ratan Tata, who has been making investments in several start-ups in his personal capacity. The company is also said to have got funding from another industrialist, details of which are still under wraps. Agarwal boasts of Karyaah being the only brand offering 18 sizes in western wear, compared to a global average of 12-13. The company unveils almost 150 new designs every month under its shirts, trousers and skirts categories.

Agarwal, a certified Chartered Accountant from KPMG and an MBA from Kellogg School of Management has over 15 years of experience in strategy, new technology marketing and finance. Before launching her own online start-up, she was the Director, Strategy at Honeywell India and has also worked as a strategy consultant at Bain & Co. However, when she realised how difficult it was to get hold of a perfectly fitting western wear for an Indian woman, she undertook market research for a year and a half to understand the challenges with the current set of sizes and then decided to launch Kaaryah as a solution to the sizing issues.

What’s unique about this startup is the ‘What’s my Size’ algorithm that promises up to 85 percent accuracy in sizing. Since its inception, Kaaryah has been witnessing a steady grown month-on-month and has says that it ships to metros and smaller towns in India as well as international destinations.
