Lakme Fashion Week, one of India’s premier fashion events, kicked off its Summer Resort 2016 edition at Hindustan Unilever’s headquarters in Mumbai. A specially curated show The Green Wardrobe initiative emphasised on green fashion, a theme that resonates with the company’s philosophy on sustainability.

Eight designers, who were specially selected, presented their collection at the show. Their collections were based on the theme of climate change and sustainability. The designers were: Anita Dongre, Anavila Mishra, Aneeth Arora, Karishma Shahani Khan, Kriti Tula, Priyanka Ella Loren Lama, Himanshu & Mia and Ujjawal Dubey. Together the designers created a surreal experience as the models walked down the ramp showcasing the creations at the show which was held in open air, in the lawns.

Sanjiv Mehta, CEO, Hindustan Unilever, opened the Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2016 and Samir Singh, executive director, personal care, Hindustan Unilever Ltd expressed how the evening was doubly special as they were able to honour brand ambassadors Kajol and Siddharth Malhotra. He talked highly of Kajol, who has played a ‘pivotal role in building awareness and advocacy for Lifebuoy’s ‘Help a Child Reach 5’ campaign since 2013’. Siddharth, he mentioned, had helped to enhance the appeal of Cornetto and Bru among the youth. And he announced that the filmstar was their brand ambassador for Fair & Lovely Men’s.

Lakme Fashion Week began in 2000 with a vision to redefine the future of fashion in India. In the last 15 years, it has been the perfect platform for leading fashion designers, hair and make-up artistes and models to come together to set the trends.
