Mafatlal issues copyright infringement notice to 300 fabric companies

Mafatlal Industries (MIL), the flagship company of Arvind Mafatlal Group has served legal notice with clause of criminal proceedings to more than 300 fabric manufacturers, distributors and dealers for misusing the ‘Mafatlal’ trademark/logo on manufactured and retailed fabrics which are not manufactured by the company. The company has planned strict legal action in the form of civil and criminal proceedings against them to stop the misuse of ‘Mafatlal’ trademark and logo as well as manufacturing and marketing of spurious goods. The company has found that many manufacturers are misusing ‘Mafatlal’ trade marks in styles and fonts registered by MIL with suffix or prefix to Sungrace and Stanrose names.

MIL is the owner of the trademark and copyrights in the intellectual properties in all the name, font and style of Mafatlal, Mafatlal Suitings, Mafatlal Fabrics. Some manufacturers and traders are copying, reproducing or making unauthorized use of these copyrights. These illegal activities are mainly taking place in Mumbai, Ichalkaranji, Ahamadabad, Bhiwandi, Bhilwara, Surat, Kerala and Erode.

MIL, incepted in 1905, has two vertically integrated composite mills at Navasari and Nadiad in Gujarat. The company’s product portfolio consists of yarn dyed and piece dyed shirtings, fibre dyed suitings in various polyester, viscose, cotton and woollen blends, voiles, prints, linens, bleached white fabrics, rubia, poplins, cambric, women’s garments, value added and fashion denims, school uniform fabrics, corporate/institutional uniforms, bed & bath linen and readymade garments.
