Mizuno is looking back at its own archives with its newest Sportstyle launch. The Japanese label unveiled on Monday the MG4 silhouette, which pays homage to designer Tuan Le’s era at the brand.
Le, a Vietnamese-American footwear designer, is known for shaping Mizuno’s modern running-shoe identity. He joined the company in the 1980s after spending roughly eight years at Reebok and ultimately developed a partnership with the Japanese sportswear company that lasted around three decades. Throughout his career, Le became famous for designing classic styles such as the Merrell Moab, the Reebok Freestyle, and the Mizuno Wave.
Mizuno Sportstyle’s MG4 silhouette is described as a reworked classic that channels Mizuno’s “design golden age” led by Le. The MG4 arrives Friday in two versions, OG and Tech, accompanied by different colorways each.
The OG arrives in cloudscape, royal lilac with galaxy silver and white, artisan gold and galaxy silver. The pairs are finished with a semi-clear detail, nodding to the archival tooling that first put the silhouette on the map.
The Tech is offered in black, iron gate and metallic grey, and in a metallic foggy dew, harbor mist with silver. The latter is finished with a grey midsole.
To celebrate the release, the brand is also unveiling a campaign shot in Amsterdam, focusing on friends gathering after work and enjoying the eurosummer.
