Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given men’s fashion a push with his sartorial taste. He has given a boost to traditional Indian dresses by sporting trendy bandhgalas and Nehru jackets. It is a big inspiration to men of all ages. As a result, the flagging menswear industry has got a much-needed push. Several fashion event showcasing menswear were a proof of this.

Bollywood designer Manish Malhotra, who completed 25 years as a costume designer and 10 years of his label, showcased his debut menswear line called The Gentleman’s Club at a fashion show in Mumbai early 2015. His collection had suits and jackets with intricate embroidery. At Gionee Indian Beach Fashion Week in Goa, Wendell Rodricks offered shirts with lungis, sherwanis with palazzo pants and bright coloured swimming trunks. Actor-comedian Vir Das launched his debut collection as a designer. A line of quirky clothing under his company Weirdass Comedy, it consisted of boxer shorts and T-shirts among other things. In December, L’Homme, Men’s Weekend, a fashion show exclusively for men was held in Delhi.

Raghavendra Rathore, leading designer known Jodhpur style bandhgala, believes that Modi has opened up the minds of the youth. He sees it as a ‘revival of classic clothing’.
