Globally acclaimed, India-born designer Bibhu Mohapatra’s ensemble became the talk of the town after US First Lady Michelle Obama wore his creation on her recent trip to India. Now the designer wishes to create exclusive designs for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The US First Lady donned a knee-length floral dress created by Mohapatra, paired with a matching coat and black pumps. This is not the first time that she flaunted his ensemble. But this time, for her India visit, the designer wanted to make it special by keeping the country’s weather and colourful culture in mind.

The New York-based designer, who after working for a decade as design director for J. Mendel launched his own collection in 2009, enjoys a presence in North America, Europe, Russia and the Middle East. He is busy creating designs for Fall to be presented at the New York Fashion Week next month. His work has been appreciated and donned by Hollywood actresses like Hilary Swank, Gwyneth Paltrow, Glenn Close and Jennifer Lopez.
