Medically inclines show by Singh
While electro music by musician Karsh Kale set the mood for the show, the atmosphere was perked up by vocalist Ankur Tewari as models wearing monotone western ensembles in Ikat prints, checks, stripes and graphic designs like skirts, overcoats, leather jackets, sheath dresses, leather gloves, brogues and oxfords inspired by the '50s. Staying true to the theme, some models even walked the ramp with bright red first-aid boxes in their hands and some danced with bandages wrapped around their head.
Structured silhouettes in bright shades rule
What followed after Singh’s show was a total contrast as designer Nikasha showcased her collection inspired by Loulou de la Falaise, fashion muse and designer associated with brand Yves Saint Laurent. Titled Ruby, the collection was a splash of bright shades of red as the name suggests. The range had Kimono shawls with tassel fringes, salwar trousers, saris, layered tops and dresses with slits in shades of beige, yellow and red with Japanese floral patterns printed on them.
Designer Payal Singhal presented her designs in the form of kurtas , anarkalis , lehengas , dresses, salwar trousers, and cigarette pants and skirts, complimented by golden rosettes embroidered on tulle, organza, silk and lace. And designer Kavita Bhartia, on the other hand, showcased fitted blazers with white flowers embroidered on them, lehengas with wide flares, dresses with zips and asymmetrical hemlines. Overall, the first day of the fashion gala was ruled by structured ensembles, bright shades, prints and embroideries.
The first day also saw Bollywood’s new sensation Shraddha Kapoor launching her maiden fashion line ‘Imara’. Experimenting with ethnic designs, the brand offers a refreshing look on fashion, for the young and stylish. It is aimed at the New Age Indian woman, who is smart and independent, open and free. A new title sponsor in the form of Amazon India, over 100 established and rising designers, and promotion of Khadi as its main theme, the 25th edition Amazon India Fashion Week (AIFW) will see glamour at its best with a focus on wearability rather than glamour.
The five-day autumn-winter edition of the fashion week is being hosted at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi where some well-known names like Abraham and Thakore, J.J. Valaya, Namrata Joshipura, Rina Dhaka, Malini Ramani, and Pankaj and Nidhi are presenting their upcoming collections through a catwalk. In addition, the event also features stalls from popular designer labels including Rohit Bal, Ranna Gill, Tarun Tahiliani, Gauri and Nainika, Indian by Manish Arora, Payal Pratap and Geisha Designs (by Paras and Shalini).
