Siddhi Vinayak Knots & Prints, a Surat-based sari manufacturer and retailer, has dragged leading ecommerce players such as Amazon, Flipkart among other to the Bombay High Court for allegedly selling copies of their copyrighted sari designs.

The companies are also accused of using designs as well as Siddhi Vinayak photographs that the company had shot using model Shreya Sabharwal for selling fake copies of the original saris. Siddhi Vinayak sells saris under the flagship brand Laxmipati through its company-owned outlets and other stores.

Both Amazon and Flipkart are said to be looking into the matter and they have taken counterfeit products being sold under Siddhi Vinayak Knots & Prints brand off their platforms. For better shopping experience, Flipkart had recently blacklisted almost 40 sellers, through its mystery shopping network of 60 employees. The network identified sellers who were either selling fake goods or not delivering the products or even buying products from their rivals only to return them later.
