Taking inspiration from the Arab royal culture, couturier Sikandar Nawaz presented an Autumn/Winter collection titled ‘Zubeida’ at a fashion show in New Delhi’s Hotel Grand. The collection was designed keeping the forthcoming wedding season in mind.
Each lehenga, gown and sherwani was priced between Rs 3 lakh and 26 lakh. The women’s wear designs were predominantly used zardozi, gota and Swarovski. Impact of designer’s decade-long stay in the UAE is evident through his work. ‘Zubeida’, put together in two years, it represents the lavish lifestyle and the appeal the royals of the United Arab Emirates have over their people. The royals have a certain class but they continue to remain in touch with the masses.
Indian influences were also visible in some designs. So the Indian bridal outfits like lenhengas were vibrant in colours and embellishments while the Arab gowns were a bit subdued. Next month, Nawaz will showcase his collection for the people and the royals of the UAE.
