Social media has emerged as a double-edged sword with mediums such as Twitter and Facebook every small statement made by celebs becomes a controversy. For instance, actor Amir Khan’s statement, about considering moving out of India in the light of rising intolerance has become a hot trending topic on social media. Not only the actor himself but even films he is associated with and brands he endorses such ecommerce firm Snapdeal, are facing a backlash.

Amid all this, Snapdeal attempted to distance itself from what its brand ambassador said with the Twitter hashtag `SnapdealForIndia.' It also issued a statement, which read, “Snapdeal is neither connected nor plays a role in comments made by Aamir Khan in his personal capacity. Snapdeal is a proud Indian company built by passionate young Indians focused on building an inclusive digital India.”

Interestingly rival Flipkart's Founder Sachin Bansal openly supported Snapdeal on Twitter saying, “This is a flawed logic. Brands don't buy into brand ambassadors' personal opinions. Snapdeal shouldn't face this.” His tweet was followed by Product Head at Flipkart - Punit Soni, who provided a link to Snapdeal statement and said, “With you guys on this”. However, others were not keen on openly supporting the ecommerce major. But industry experts believe that such controversies are momentary and led by a fraction of the people.
