App-based fashion retailer Voonik has acquired Trialkart, a start-up that provides virtual dressing room experience to users. The Trialkart team will now also develop 'Image Intelligence' at Voonik to help shoppers make shopping easy on Voonik's shopping app.

TrialKart was co-founded by Vipul Divyanshu, Jayalakshmi Manohar and Harsha M nearly five months ago. The self-funded start-up was on the lookout for investors, when Voonik approached them. Voonik recently raised five million dollars (around Rs 32 crores) in first round of funding from Sequoia Capital and Seedfund and had said in its statement that the Series A funding will enable it to enhance its personalization and style recommendation technology.

Wooing and retaining customers shopping for fashion merchandise has become one of the focus areas of leading online players. They are investing in technology to make their shopping experience easy, while making them ignore the need of touch-and-feel factor. Flipkart, for instance, recently launched image search that allows users to click a picture of a product of their choice and search for it using the image. Craftsvilla, an online handicrafts retailer, recently tied up with Chennai-based computer vision start-up MadStreetDen to launch similar service. Even Myntra has announced that it would focusits efforts around image recognition.
