Woodland stops shipments to ecommerce companies

Outdoor and lifestyle player Woodland, a retailer of footwear, apparel and accessories has stopped shipments to ecommerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart due to steep discounts offered by them. The company experienced saw offline sales getting negatively impacted because of the online discounts.

Now e-retailers and Woodland are in talks to solve the issues. The company has sought a written commitment from Amazon and Flipkart on the discounting issue. On the other hand, the company is in the process of creating exclusive new designs and collections to be sold on online channels so that sale of online and offline collections don’t clash with each-other. Woodland also sells products on its own website. Witnessing 25-30 per cent growth annually, the company is looking forward to end the current fiscal with overall revenues of Rs 1,300 crores.

Woodland currently retails its merchandise through 500 stores in addition to selling footwear through multi-brand outlets. Woodland plans to open 60-70 new stores annually wherein a store measuring 2,000 sq. ft. at an investment of over Rs two crore. The company plans to invest Rs 30-40 crores in expanding manufacturing capacity.
