Aditya Birla Nuvo is planning to introduce its online shopping site in the next couple of quarters.

According to Rakesh Jain, MD, Aditya Birla Nuvo though the retail business was in its infancy in India in the case of garments the company would look at rolling out its best-selling brands like Peter England, Louis Philippe, Van Heusen and Allen Solly on the worldwide internet. As a run-up to its online offering, the firm has already initiated a scheme whereby customers can have garments home-delivered within 48 hours. If a certain garment is not available in a particular size or color at any of their stores, the company ensures that within the next 48 hours, the garment is personally delivered at the customer’s house.

The home-delivery scheme appears to have worked well for the company, since the firm has registered a 25 per cent jump in its like-to-like store sales in the first six months of the year. Jain feels it is not just youngsters who are their core customers. Even executives are keen to wear branded products and that is a segment that they would like to cater to in a large way through the online model.

The $3.5 billion conglomerate Aditya Birla Nuvo is in the midst of leveraging its brick-and-mortar operations of Madura Garments, to an online shopping format, engaging with competitors like the Kishore Biyani-led Future Group, which recently rolled out its net operations. With online apparel shopping gaining momentum in the country, the diversified conglomerate has decided to personally cater to its customers.
